Good Faith Estimate
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, individuals who do not have health insurance or who choose not to use their health insurance to pay for services have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much their health care services are expected to cost.
If you are uninsured or plan to pay for therapy services without submitting a claim to your health insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected charges for your care.
You may request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling services or at any time during your care. If you schedule services at least 3 business days in advance, a Good Faith Estimate will be provided in accordance with federal requirements.
Your Good Faith Estimate will explain the expected cost of the services that are reasonably anticipated based on the information available at the time the estimate is prepared. Because the frequency and duration of psychotherapy can vary depending on your individual needs, your estimate may be updated if there are significant changes to your treatment plan or expected services.
If Your Bill Is Higher Than Your Estimate
If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above the amount listed on your Good Faith Estimate from a provider, you may be eligible to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.
